Yahel – Israel Service Learning is an educational organization that offers service learning and social action programs in Israel. In September 2010 Yahel will launch its Masa approved program for young adults - the Yahel Social Change Program. Yahel is currently seeking a Program Facilitator who will provide overall leadership and facilitation for this program. The ideal candidate for this position is a strong educator who has a background in and connection to social change and social activism.

 Qualifications:

* Completely bi-lingual in Hebrew and English.

* Previous experience as a formal and/or informal educator and prior experience facilitating groups.

* Appreciation for and understanding of different cultural traditions; knowledge and experience working with the Ethiopian community preferred.

* At least a college/university degree in Jewish education, social work, public policy or a similarly relevant field. Masters degree encouraged.

* Ability to offer care, support and inspiration to young adults.

* Interest and ability to manage program logistics.

Position description

Yahel Social Change Program is a unique 5-month service learning experience for young adults between the ages of 21 and 27. The program is based in the town of Gedera and combines hands-on volunteer work with in-depth learning and immersion. The program is offered in collaboration with Friends by Nature - a local grassroots non-profit organization working in the Ethiopian community in the fields of community empowerment and education. Throughout the program participants live, volunteer and learn alongside their peers from the local Ethiopian-Israeli community.

The Program Facilitator will be responsible for the programmatic and logistical details of the program, working in conjunction with the Director of Yahel and staff of Friends by Nature.  He/She will organize and facilitate regular learning and reflection sessions using the Yahel curriculum. The Yahel Program Facilitator will oversee the day-to-day administration of the program and will be the primary person responsible for the care of program participants. The facilitator will work with a liaison from Friends by Nature to insure the integration of the participants into the community and to ensure effective volunteer work.

Responsibilities:

* Work with Yahel staff to develop and carry-out an educational curriculum for Yahel participants.

* Work with Yahel and Friends by Nature staff to facilitate cross-cultural learning.

* Manage group development and dynamics.

* Support individual participants.

* Oversee the work projects in collaboration with Friends by Nature staff.

* Oversee program logistics including schedule, speakers and tours.

* Ensure the health and safety of participants.
